Looking forward in 2016

So what is 2016 likely to bring us? Well, in the good old world of marketing consultancy, it’s likely to be new ways to engage with customers, new trends in consumer and business buying preferences and increasing competition (which is fine as long as we are better).

One thing I think is certain is the ‘business as usual’ nature of social media. It’s not new or complicated or just for young and trendy types. It’s mainstream. The cultural changes are permanent but the platforms themselves likely not to be.

Likewise SEO actually. It’s not an optional add-on or a techy pursuit but the job of anyone involved in marketing or who has their own business.

The need for strategy and differentiation will as always remain (and differentiating only by who you target and what claims you make will not be enough). It will remain important to live your values and your other promises. Have you ever noticed that in our personal life, the people who claim to be ‘fun’, ‘outgoing’, various types of ‘mad’ etc are often some of the dullest? Well, it’s the same in businesses. Saying it does not make it so. What else you got?

Happy New Year and happy marketing!
